Bio-Identical Hormone Restoration
Get your energy, libido, and positive outlook back with natural hormones.
Why hormone restoration?
Many of the common maladies of "old age" such as loss of energy, hair loss, weight gain around the middle, loss of libido, and fatigue are actually symptoms of hormone deficiencies that occur naturally with aging. But with modern medical treatments, we don't have to live with these symptoms. These symptoms can be dramatically improved by restoring healthy hormone levels through bio-identical hormone restoration at Renewal.
What does "bio-identical" mean?
Bio-identical hormones are those that your body makes on its own. This means testosterone, estradiol, estriol, and progesterone among others. What are NOT bio-identical hormones? Premarin® (a registered trademark of Pfizer, Inc) and Provera® (a registered trademark of Pfizer, Inc) - two hormones used for decades to treat hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause in women. Premarin® is horse estrogen (seriously) and Provera® is sort of…but not quite like progesterone. Oral contraceptives are also non bio-identical.
What hormones do men need?
Men are often deficient in testosterone, especially after their mid-30's when natural testosterone production begins to decline significantly. Testosterone deficiency is always evaluated with appropriate labs to ensure nothing more serious is being overlooked. In young men, testosterone deficiency can be treated with hCG and when necessary, testosterone supplementation. In older men we typically go straight to testosterone supplementation which is very effective. At Renewal, we also monitor levels of other hormones such as estrogen and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) when supplementing testosterone to ensure other health issues are not created inadvertently.
What hormones do women need?
Women who are still menstruating are often deficient in testosterone while their estrogen and progesterone levels may be normal or even high, depending on the person. These patients often benefit greatly from low dose testosterone supplementation. Women who are no longer menstruating are typically low on estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone so typically all three hormones are given to restore health.
How are hormones given?
Estrogen can be given by topical cream or sterile pellet implant. Taking estrogen by mouth is not recommended. Progesterone can be given by topical cream or more commonly by mouth, which is believed to have a more "breast protective" effect in helping prevent breast cancer. Testosterone can be given by topical cream, injection, or sterile pellet implant. Taking testosterone by mouth is not recommended.
